13TH ANNUAL KDW

On May 21, 2011 Simmons & White, Inc. held our 13^th Annual Kingfish-Dolphin-Wahoo (KDW) Fishing Tournament and Fish Fry.  This was the eighth year that Simmons & White’s fishing tournament was formatted as a fundraiser for the Florida Engineering Society (FES) Palm Beach Chapter’s scholarship fund.  Thanks to the generosity of tournament sponsors, we were able to present a check for over $7,500 for their use in awarding scholarships to area high school and college students pursuing degrees in engineering.

Since the event was formatted to benefit the Scholarship Fund, we have raised over $60,000 for our local Chapter to use in awarding scholarships.  It is a great honor for us to contribute to the education of our future engineers.  Even in the current economy and down-turn that our industry has taken, we were still able to raise over $7,500 this year alone.  It is the continued support of our sponsors which makes this possible.  A total of 27 boats registered for entry in this year’s tournament and over 200 people attended the fish fry and pool party.  The overall tournament winner was a 28 pound Kingfish on the boat Blue Steel by Jeff Zito and crew from Atlantic Land.  “The Annual Simmons and White KDW is one of my favorite fishing tournaments year in and year out. My crew and I look forward to it every year especially the fish fry! It is always great to get together with our friends and colleagues after a day of fishing! This year we were fortunate enough to have gorgeous weather, catch some fish and win the tournament but the real winner is the FES and the scholarship program. I cannot thank Rob, his wife and his partners enough for hosting such a great fishing tournament and fish fry for all of us to enjoy!” said Tournament winner Jeff Zito.

The tournament has become the perfect excuse for the engineering community to come together and enjoy a morning of fishing and an afternoon of socializing and picnicking.  Once again local planner Kevin McGinley and his band, the Saildogs, provided the live music, and a local event caterer, Large Marge Productions, did all the cooking.

The 14th Annual Simmons & White KDW Derby and Fish Fry Sponsorship proceeds will go to the Florida Engineering Society Scholarship Program. Sponsorships may be Corporate or Individual. Companies or individuals wishing to sponsor the tournament will be recognized as sponsors on the tournament T-shirts. Event & Platinum Level Sponsors will have their company logos included on the event shirts. Please have camera-ready artwork/logos available.
