Simmons & White, Inc., has been given notice to proceed on a three-year contract to provide traffic signal design consulting services on a task-order basis for Palm Beach County. Our projects will encompass all services necessary to support the Traffic Signal Design Section in improving and maintaining its traffic signal system.
These services will include traffic engineering, traffic signal design, pedestrian signal design, structural analysis, permitting, and construction coordination.
Palm Beach County’s Traffic Engineering Division has the mission “to provide for the safe and efficient movement of traffic on roads under the jurisdiction of Palm Beach County.” The Traffic Signal Design Section is responsible for all traffic signals maintained by the County, which includes more than 900 traffic signal devices. Signal systems are continuously monitored and traffic signal timing updated as necessary. Simmons & White’s selection as Palm Beach County’s on-call consultant also now gives other municipalities and counties the advantage of piggybacking contracts for traffic signal design services, avoiding the time-consuming process of soliciting bids.
Tricia Barr, PE, a senior traffic engineer, previously managed this project for three years at another transportation firm. Her transition to Simmons & White earned our firm across-the-board #1 rankings during the short-list selection process. Ms. Barr has almost two decades of experience designing and permitting transportation improvements across the state for governmental agencies.
